Who are the American Indians?

The tragedy of the Indians, probably, now known to everyone – this is the autochthonous inhabitants of the Americas, which were almost driven from their homes, and long had to fight the “white”. American Indians who lived on the local territory, were considered wild, and the conquerors treated them as mentally underdeveloped people, or as to the children cruelly deceiving them and destroying. There were many transactions, for some American Indians gave up their land for beads, knives and stuff, and were forced to leave their territory.

North American Indians

The fate of all Indian tribes deserve a separate discussion. Surprisingly even the fact that for almost 500 years of colonization and the brutal struggle for survival, Native Americans still managed to preserve the basic and most important traditions of their ancestors. Of course, not all tribes have survived till this day, however, the Indians of North America are still one of the largest organizations in the protection of indigenous ethnic groups. Only through this and similar organizations made possible the studing of Indian culture and customs: it is one thing to carry out excavations in the dead city, step by step, breaking a path to the wild guesses and quite another to restore the true course of events, based on a living culture, even if it is experienced many changes over the past century.

Indians of North

Indians of North America appear as one of the most amazing nation. Anthropologists still debate about their origin, putting forward many of the most incredible version, attributing a pioneering peoples of Siberia, the Scandinavians, the Australian Aborigines. The most interesting thing that any of these theories has the full right to existence and it is secured by various archaeological finds.

KEY TO THE INDIAN HOME

In 1492, from Europe to the west through unknown ocean sailed the expedition of three ships financed by the Spanish court. Was led by a man whose name was Christopher Columbus. His life and the journey is so widely known that we almost do not talk about them. We note only that Columbus was searching not for America, but more precisely – the sea route to India, in this fabulous land of treasures and spices. And when, after a long voyage he crossed the Atlantic Ocean, in October 11, 1492 he moored in the harbour of a small island (one of the present island of the Bahamas), and was face to face with the unknown people in the New World, he had full confidence that he met Hindu (in Spanish lndios). So as a result of errors of the great navigator, who was convinced that met the first Hindu came the word “Indian”.

Stocky figure, short legs and a long arms, small hands and feet, underdeveloped eyebrow arches. The large nose (often, especially in the north, called as the eagle nose). Quite a big mouth. Eyes are usually brown. Hair is black, straight, thick.
